TITLE:

REED BED
|
|
INSPIRATION:
|
This
sculpture was inspired by one of my most favourite places, Seasalter, on the North Kent Coast. A very unspoiled,
uncrowded beach originally owned by the Diocese of Canterbury for the collection of salt. There is a wonderful array
of birds and the area is very famous for the collection of shellfish, which I spent many happy hours gathering as a child.
Across from the Beach lays large areas of marsh with numerous reed beds and upon visiting there on a glorious
still August afternoon this year, was captivated by the late summer sun shining through the reeds.

DETAILS:
|
Using a
triple primed Loxley professional canvas lines of very wet paper pulp are dribbled onto the surface to form the reeds. The
bullrushes, made out of paper pulp, are then applied and sculpted. The whole
sculpture is then left to dry, usually for a week or more if the ambient temperature is low or the pulp is very thick.
It is then sealed again before being layered with professional quality acrylic paints, two coats of varnish are then
applied to preserve this beautiful work of art.
The sides are textured and painted, so there is no need to frame and therefore
ready to hang straightaway.
A Certificate of Authenticity, stating details of the sculpture, signed and dated
by the artist, will be included.
Care Instructions will also be included.
